Site Inspires OC Scribes
Inspire OC, a website located at http://www.inspireoc.org, has recently been launched to serve as an online creative writing blog and forum for students of all grades and ages within Orange County. Adithi Iyer, a student at Woodbridge High School, founded this website and organization to promote a love for writing among her community."In schools, funded or not, students just don't get the chance to truly explore their scope of storytelling... With all the academic writing we as students do so often, our general perception of writing is associated with boredom and ennui," said Iyer in an interview with JSR.
She hopes to inspire and educate students in enjoying the practice of writing not only as an academic procedure, but as an art.
Currently, Inspire OC is in its beginning stages, but Iyer already has big plans for its future. She hopes to work with affiliate companies and literary advocates to create interesting activities and projects all encouraging creative writing. Because Iyer envisions this as a community-focused organization, she also hopes to reach out to schools within Orange County.
"Local middle and high schools are our starting point, and we hope to grow from there. Our overreaching ambitions are to really make a difference in the lives of students with the use of creative writing."
Iyer believes that words are the most powerful tools and that writing should be practiced by everyone. "With writing, there are no bounds on what we can achieve; it is truly such a versatile art. I would say to both keep on writing and share your ideas with others! Don't be afraid to be an agent of change!"
