(Paul is talking to his friend Dave…)

(폴이 친구 데이브와 이야기를 나눈다…)

Paul: I heard you and Ellen broke up. Is that true?

폴: 엘런하고 헤어졌다고 들었는데. 진짜야?

Dave: Yes it is.

데이브: 응 헤어졌어.

Paul: What happened?

폴: 어떻게 된 거야?

Dave: She said she wanted to live alone.

데이브: 엘런이 혼자 살고 싶대.

Paul: Did you see it coming?

폴: 이렇게 될 줄 알았어?

Dave: Yes I did. I saw the signs.

데이브: 응 알았어. 조짐이 보였거든.

Paul: Like what? 폴: 어떤 조짐?

Dave: She started to come home later and later at night from work she didn't want to go anywhere on the weekends.

데이브: 퇴근하는 시간이 점점 늦어지기 시작했고 주말에는 아무 데도 가려고 하지 않았어.

Paul: I'm sorry Dave. 폴: 안 돼서 어떡하니 데이브.

Dave: This hurts and it's going to take a while but I'll be okay.

데이브: 마음도 아프고 해서 시간이 좀 걸리겠지만 괜찮을 거야.

“Andrew told me that he and Jane were going to break up.”

(앤드루가 제인하고 헤어질 거라고 그랬어.)

*see the signs: 조짐이 보이다.

“I knew my son was failing in school. I saw the signs.”

(우리 아들이 학교에서 낙제하고 있는 거 알았어. 조짐이 보였거든.)

*take a while: 시간이 좀 걸리다.

“It’s going to take a while before I can get my car fixed.”

(내 차를 고치려면 시간이 좀 걸릴 거야.)
