[오늘의 생활영어] go through the roof; 값이 치솟다

Sue and her friend Jaimie are having lunch.

Sue: Nothing good is happening in my life lately.

Jaimie: What’s your problem?

Sue: The price of gas has gone through the roof, my boyfriend is angry with me, and my credit cards are maxed out.

Jaimie: It could be worse.

Sue: I know you’re right but I can’t help it.

Jaimie: How can I help?

Sue: Give me a million dollars.

Jaimie: I doubt if that would help.

Sue: I suppose you’re right. I’d just have another set of problems.

Jaimie: You’re going to have to deal with your problems.

“I didn’t want to max out my debit card but I had no choice.”

*can’t help it: 어쩔 수 없다.
“I can’t help it if he doesn’t like me.”

*deal with (someone or something):
“She’s been dealing with her health for a month.”
