조지아 반이민법에 대한 이민언론의 입장

GEORGIA ETHNIC MEDIA JOINTLY CONDEMN HB 87

조지아 반이민법, HB 87은 인종을 막론하고 모든 시민들에게 불이익이 되는 법이다.

조지아주의 이민언론들은 이 부당한 법에 반대하며, 이민자 및 지역사회를 이 법으로부터 보호하기 위해 대처방안을 모든 노력을 다할 것이다.

조지아주의 아시안, 라티노, 흑인, 아랍인 등 다민족 커뮤니티를 대변하는 이민언론들은, HB 87이 인종차별적 검문검색의 계기가 되며 지역사회에 불이익을 끼친다는 사실을 상기시키고자 한다.

마틴 루터 킹과 민권운동 투쟁의 고향인 조지아주는 이 왜곡된 법으로 인해 50년전으로 퇴보할 것이다.

반이민법 HB 87은 지역사회 뿐만 아니라 비즈니스에도 악영향을 끼칠 것이다. 애리조나식 반이민법 SB1070이 가져온 결과처럼, 반이민법 HB87은 조지아주 경제에 부정적 영향을 끼칠 것이다.

또한 HB87은 이미 지역사회에 공포감을 조성하고 있으며 이민자들의 조지아주 이탈을 가속화할 것이다. 이 법은 잘못된 이민정책을 바꾸는데 아무런 영향을 끼치지 못하며, 오히려 이민자와 인종간 갈등을 부추겨 비즈니스에 부정적 영향을 끼치고 조지아주 경제를 퇴보시키는 계기가 될 것이다.

그러므로 우리 이민 언론은 이같은 반이민법에 강력히 반대한다. 우리는 네이선 딜 주지사의 반이민법 HB87 서명을 유감스럽게 생각하며, 조지아 주민의 권리와 시민의 자유를 보호하기 위해 연방법원에 반이민법 제소를 촉구한다.

House Bill 87 is a law that affects all of us, irrespective of ethnicity.

The ethnic media of Georgia are coming together from across the state to oppose this unjust legislation and to protect our communities.

As the media that serve Georgia’s diverse communities, including Latino, African American, Arab American, Muslim and Asian American, we feel that HB 87 opens the door to racial profiling and all of our communities will suffer as a result.

We believe that this law sets Georgia back 50 years. The intolerance that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the civil rights movement fought against is emerging with a new face and a new rhetoric.

HB 87 not only harms our communities, but it is bad for business. If Georgia follows in the footsteps of Arizona’s immigration law SB 1070, it will have a negative impact on our state’s economy. Since Arizona passed its immigration law last year, that state has lost hundreds of millions of dollars.

The law has already led to a climate of fear. While some immigrants are planning to leave the state, others are afraid to leave their homes.

Finally, this legislation will do nothing to fix the broken immigration system. Rather, it will set Georgia back in time, increase ethnic and racial tensions in the state, and scare away business.

The voices of those who oppose the law must be heard. We urge our communities to stand together against this unjust legislation.

We condemn Governor Nathan Deal’s signing of HB 87 and call on the federal court to repeal this legislation and protect the rights and civil liberties of all residents of Georgia.
