[오늘의 생활영어] show (someone) the ropes; 요령을 가르쳐 주다

Lee a Korean-born American citizen takes his cousin Park to a party. Park has recently arrived in Los Angeles and doesn't speak English as well as Lee.

Lee: So cousin how are you doing

Park: I'm good. I'm excited.

Lee: Excited about what?

Park: Being in a new country and learning a new language.

Lee: It is exciting isn't it?

Park: I think the biggest challenge for me is going to be learning American idioms.

Lee: It takes time but you'll get the hang of it.

Park: And I want to learn about American customs too. I don't want to say or do the wrong thing.

Lee: Stick with me and I'll show you the ropes.

Park: This is a nice party.

*it takes time: 시간이 걸려.

"It takes time to learn any language."

*(someone) will get the hang of it: 요령이 생길 거야.

"Driving a car is really easy. Keep practicing. You'll get the hang of it."

*stick with me: 내 옆에 붙어있어.

"You can easily get lost in this mall stick with me."
