[오늘의 생활영어] (one) slept like a baby; 곤하게 자다

(Diana is talking to her brother Roger who is visiting her in New York…)

(다이애나가 뉴욕을 찾아온 남동생 라저와 이야기를 나눈다…)

Diana: Did you sleep well?

다이애나: 푹 잤어?



Roger: Yes! I slept like a baby.

라저: 그럼! 곤하게 잤어.

Diana: Great. What would you like for breakfast?

다이애나: 잘했다. 아침은 뭐 먹을까?

Roger: Oh scrambled eggs?

라저: 아 스크램블한 달걀 어때?

Diana: Okay I can do that.

다이애나: 그래. 해줄게.

Roger: And I could go for a cup of Joe.

라저: 그리고 커피 한 잔 마시고 싶어.

Diana: The coffee is ready. Help yourself.

다이애나: 커피 다 됐어. 맘껏 마셔.

Roger: What are you doing today?

라저: 오늘 뭐 할거야?

Diana: My day is wide open. I have no plans.

다이애나: 오늘 하루 종일 시간 있어. 아무 계획이 없거든.

Roger: Great! Let's walk around the city.

라저: 잘 됐다! 시내 좀 걷자.

기억할만한 표현

*I could go for…: …을 하고 싶다.

“I could go for a large glass of orange juice.” (큰 잔으로 오렌지 한 잔 마시고 싶어.)

*a cup of Joe: (친한 사이끼리 사용) 커피 한 잔.

“I need a cup of Joe before I start work.” (일 시작하기 전에 커피 한 잔 해야겠다.)

*(one’s) day is wide open: 하루 종일 시간 있어.

“I don‘t have to work tomorrow. My day is wide open.” (내일은 일 안 해도 돼. 하루 종일 시간 나.)
