(Laura is talking to her husband Scott about Scott's brother Andrew…)

(로라가 시아주버니 앤드루 문제로 남편 스캇과 이야기를 나누며…)

Laura: So how was lunch with Andrew?

로라: 그래 아주버니와 점심 어땠어요?

Scott: It was good. We don't get to see each other a lot.

스캇: 좋았어. 서로 볼 시간이 별로 없잖아.

Laura: Is he still going to buy that sports utility vehicle?

로라: 그 SUV 아직도 살 거래요?

Scott: No and thank God. I talked him out of buying it.

스캇: 아니야. 다행이지 뭐야. 사지 말라고 내가 설득했어.

Laura: How did you do that?

로라: 어떻게 설득을 했어요?

Scott: I told him that the gas mileage was terrible. 스캇: 연비가 엉망이라고 얘기해줬지.

Laura: Did he understand?

로라: 그 말을 받아들여요?

Scott: I told him that he would be throwing money down the drain.

스캇: 돈을 길에 뿌리는 거라고 얘기했지.

Laura: What did he say?

로라: 그러니까 뭐래요?

Scott: He said he would look around for another car.

스캇: 다른 차를 찾아보겠다고 하더라고.

기억할만한 표현

*get to (do something): (무엇을 할) 시간이나 기회가 있다.

“I hope I get to play some golf this weekend.” (이번 주말에 골프를 좀 칠 시간이 있었으면 좋겠어.)

*throw money down the drain: 돈을 길에 뿌리다.

“When he bought two laptops I thought he was throwing money down the drain.” ( 그 사람 랩탑을 두 대나 샀다니 돈을 길에 뿌리고 다니는군.)

*look around for (someone or something): 여기 저기 찾다.
