[JSR] ‘Skills USA’ Encourages High School Students Interested in Technical Fields.
This year, Skills USA took place at Pasadena Community College. The students competing met at our Crescenta Valley High campus at 6:30 in the morning, to take the bus to the college. All competitions started at 10:oo a.m., and each portion had a specific building and classroom.
This year I participated in the Advertisement Design section. Here, the participants had a total of 1000 points possible. The first 100 points were based off on the 10-question multiple-choice test. The test asked a few questions regarding the three main adobe programs, keyboard shortcuts, and theories.
The rest of the points were based on the projects themselves, which were created by the students. Participants were required to make 4 different ads in different sizes. About 10 photos were provided on a USB drive, along with the logos, in black and white. We had 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the project.
The theme was to make an advertisement for a sports and hiking equipment company that has pride in using recycled plastic in their products and being environment-friendly.
The results for this exciting event will be announced later in the month, and we are all looking forward to seeing who won. For more information about Skills USA, please visit their webpage, located at www.skillsusa.org.
