[오늘의 생활영어] give (one) a lift; (누구를) 태워주다

(To friends who work together are talking on the telephone…)

(같이 근무하는 동료가 전화 통화를 하는데…)



Roger: Hello.

라저: 여보세요.

Ken: Hi Roger it's Ken.

켄: 어이 라저. 나 켄이야.

Roger: Oh hi Ken. What's up?

라저: 아 안녕 켄. 무슨 일이야?

Ken: Could you do me a favor?

켄: 부탁 하나 들어줄 수 있어?

Roger: Sure what is it?

라저: 물론이지. 뭔데?

Ken: Could you give me a lift to work tomorrow?

켄: 내일 회사까지 태워줄 수 있어?

Roger: Sure. No problem. Is your car all right?

라저: 그래. 문제 없어. 네 차 괜찮아?

Ken: No. It's in the shop. I'm having work done on my front brakes.

켄: 아니. 정비소에 있어. 앞쪽 브레이크 고쳐달라고 맡겨놨어.

Roger: What time do you want me to pick you up?

라저: 몇 시에 데리러 가면 좋겠어?

Ken: Come by around 8:45.

켄: 8시 45분 쯤에 와.

▶Could (or Would) you do me a favor?: 부탁 하나 들어줄 수 있어?

“Would you do me a favor? Would you open the window?”

(부탁 하나 해도 되지? 창문 좀 열어줄래?)

▶in the shop: 정비소 맡기다.

“My car is in the shop, so I have to take the bus to school.”

(내 차는 정비소에 있어서 버스 타고 학교가야 돼.)

▶come by: 들르다.

“Come by and I’ll show you my new flat screen TV.”

(잠깐 들르면 새로 산 평면 스크린 TV 보여줄게.)
