(코리아타운뉴스) Ex-Math Teacher Walks Across America

“I only get to live once. I’m going to go where my footsteps take me.”

Former high school math teacher Micael Kim, 33, began walking across the United States. In fact, his route is not simply walking across the country. Kim plans to walk through the trail. That means he will be walking through the nature, including countless mountains that will stand in his way.

Kim left his job as a math teacher at Young Women’s Leadership School in Queens, New York just two years ago. He developed a passion for hiking after challenging himself through the Appalachian Trail last year and decided that he will take a crack at walking all the way across the country.

“I did start doing this because it’s something I like,” Kim said. “But the teacher burnout really got to me. It may seem like a decent job, but I guess I was exhausted from working beyond my hours and looking after my students. I wanted to do something that will challenge me to test my limits.”

Kim’s journey began from San Diego, Calif., and will end at the northeastern border between the U.S. and Canada after five to six months. The total distance is approximately 2,650 miles. Kim will be camping along his journey and prepare the meals for his trips every 100 mile.

“I’d like to share stories and photos of the hidden gems in America with other people,” Kim said.
Kim’s journey can be followed on his blog (https://palindrome2017.wordpress.com/).
