[오늘의 생활영어] out of (one's) price ; 너무 비싸 못 사다

Susan and Jerry are shopping for furniture. (수전과 제리가 가구를 사려고 쇼핑 중이다.)

Susan: How much is this coffee table?

수전: 이 거실용 탁자는 얼마야?

Jerry: The price tag says $400.

제리: 가격표에는 400달러로 돼 있는데.

Susan: Wow! That's out of our price range.

수전: 그래? 우리 예산으론 너무 비싸 못 사겠다.

Jerry: Yes. We can't afford that.

제리: 진짜. 우리 형편으론 안 되겠다.

Salesman: Can I help you?

판매원: 좀 도와드릴까요?

Susan: Yes. We like this coffee table but do you have a cheaper one?

수전: 예. 여기 작은 탁자가 마음에 드는데 더 싼 건 없나요?

Salesman: This one here is marked down from $400 to $175.

판매원: 여기 있는 건 가격을 400달러에서 175달러로 내렸어요.

Jerry: That's more like it.

제리: 그게 훨씬 낫다.

Susan: Yes that's much better and I like the table Jerry.

수전: 응. 훨씬 좋네. 탁자도 마음에 들고.

Jerry: Can you deliver it to our place?

제리: 집까지 배달 해주죠?


기억할만한 표현

*marked down (from)…: 가격을 내리다.

"This chair is marked down. Let's buy it."

(이 의자는 가격을 내렸네. 이거 사자.)


*That's more like it: 그게 훨씬 낫다.

"$3000 for your car? That's more like it. I couldn't pay the $4000 you first wanted."

(네 차가 3000달러? 그러면 훨씬 낫지. 처음에 네가 원했던 4000달러는 내가 낼 능력이 없었거든.)



*(one's) place: (누구네) 집.

"I want you to come to my place for dinner on Saturday."

(토요일에 저녁 먹으러 우리 집에 와.)
