(Linda is talking to her friend Jerry a pet store owner … )

Linda: Oh what cute puppies!

Jerry: They are cute, aren't they?

Linda: Are these puppies going to grow up to be big dogs?

Jerry: Yes they are.

Linda: I can't have one because I have a small apartment.

Jerry: So you don't want a dog?

Linda: No, I won't rule out a dog. I just need a small one.

Jerry: How's your cat?

Linda: I had to part with it because it was tearing up the place.

Jerry: Well, look at these dogs over here. They're small.

"I'm going to have to rule out a computer from my shopping list this Christmas. I already have too many gifts to buy."

* part with (something): 헤어지다 버리다

"I parted with my stereo because I needed money."

* tear up the place:

"The dog I had tore up the place so I had to give it away."
