(Bill is talking to his roommate Tom … )

Bill: Tom what are all these flowers for?

Tom: Some are for my girlfriend and some are for her mother.

Bill: Her mother? That's overkill don't you think?

Tom: No I don't think so. I want to win her over.

Bill: Your girlfriend or her mother?

Tom: I want my girlfriend's mother to like me.

Bill: Her mother is going to see right through it.

Tom: Should I back off a little on the flowers then?

Bill: Well I wouldn't give her mother flowers right now.

Tom: I guess you're right.

* (that's or it's) overkill: 지나치다

"All that perfume you put on is overkill."

* see right through it:

"If you're being nice to him because he has money he'll see right through it."

* back off: 한발짝 물러서다 참다

"I'm going to back off on giving my students so much homework."
