Who’s Who in Overseas-Korean Business World to Gather in Dallas

By Tony Chai | Korea Daily Texas

Overseas-Korean business leaders from around the world are gathering in Dallas th
is spring.

The Korean government, in association with overseas-Korean business communities worldwide, created the World Korean Business Convention in 2002.

The Hansang convention, as it’s called in Korean, is an annual convention of overseas-Korean business leaders from all corners of the world, where they create and enhance global business network with entrepreneurs in Korea.

The steering committee of the Hansang convention meets twice annually to review the past event and prepare for the upcoming convention. The committee is made up of about 50 overseas-Korean entrepreneurs.

The committee is holding its 2018 annual meeting at the Renaissance Dallas at Plano Legacy West from Friday, April 20th to Sunday, April 22nd.

The hotel was built and is owned by David Moon, who is the founder and CEO of Dallas’ own Sam Moon Group. Moon is one of the most prominent and successful Korean-American businessmen, not only in Dallas but also in the entire United States.
David Moon is also a member of the Leading CEO Forum, which is held in conjunction with the Hansang steering committee meeting. The forum is comprised of another 50 or so global overseas-Korean business leaders. The purpose of the forum is to discuss and encourage various ways to help the Korean entrepreneurs establish their foothold in the global market.

With the Hansang steering committee meeting and the Leading CEO Forum being held
jointly in Dallas, who’s who in the global overseas-Korean business community are expected to pay a visit to Dallas.

On Monday, April 9th, David Moon invited some of the Korean-American media reporters to his executive office at the Sam Moon Center on Harry Hines Blvd. to announce the details of the events.

The committee meeting and the forum are usually held in Korea. But a big part of the reason why they are held in Dallas this year is attributable to David Moon himself and his business.

Moon is the first ever Korean-American entrepreneur to build a five-star hotel independently, without any form of partnership with others. He also owns the Coyote Ridge Golf Course in Carrollton.

In addition to his respectability among the overseas-Korean business leaders, hi
s hotel and golf course would provide the perfect combination of venues for an event of this magnitude.

About 100 participants will stay in David Moon’s hotel and also enjoy leisure and networking events at his golf course.

Woo-Sung Han, who is the chairman of the board with the Overseas Koreans Foundation, will visit Dallas and host the welcoming banquet on Friday, April 20th at the Renaissance Hotel.

Dae-Hwan Jang, the CEO of Mae-Il Media Group in Korea, will pay an ‘unofficial but special visit’ to Dallas.

Jang, who enthusiastically supported the formation of the Hansang convention back in 2002 and remains a strong supporter, was scheduled to deliver the keynote speech at last year’s Renaissance Hotel opening ceremony. But due to schedule conflict, Jang reluctantly had to cancel his trip to Dallas.

Feeling indebted to David Moon, who is his close friend and colleague, Jang decided to visit Dallas in time for this year’s Hansang events.

Some of the other big names in the list include CEO Myung-Ki Hong of Duracoat, honorary president Suk-Hwa Ko of Bank of Hope, CEO Byung-Tae Cho of Flexfit, former president of OKTASC Jin-Chul Jung, Jong-Tae Choi of Yamazen in Japan, CEO Young-In Jung of Turbo Group, CEO Jong-Bum Park of YoungSan Group in Austria, CEO Yong-Hwa Ha of Solomon Insurance in New York, and former president of World-OKTA Gi-Chool Park.

The steering committee meeting and the Leading CEO Forum will be held on Friday, April 20th at the Renaissance hotel. The welcoming banquet hosted by the Overseas Koreans Foundation’s board chair will be held later in the evening.

On Saturday, April 21st, David Moon will host his own banquet after a round of golf and sightseeing for the guests in the morning. 10 or so of the Korean-American community leaders of Dallas will be invited for Moon’s banquet.

“This will be a rare opportunity to show the global overseas-Korean business leaders from all over the world what Dallas has become.” David Moon said during the news conference.
