[오늘의 생활영어] for the most part; 대부분, 십중팔구는

(Katherine is talking to her friend David…)

Katherine: How was Erica's party on Saturday?

David: It was okay.

Katherine: Just okay?

David: For the most part it was good.

Katherine: What didn't you like about it?

David: The food left a lot to be desired.

Katherine: The food was bad?

David: Yes. And the music wasn't very good. Erica doesn't know how to throw a party.

Katherine: That's too bad.

David: I should have brought my CDs. That would have livened things up.

*throw a party: 파티를 열다.

"Mary is going to throw a party for her sister. It's her birthday."

*liven things up: 분위기를 띄우다.

"Jim is bringing Chinese food to the poker game. That should liven things up."
