[오늘의 생활영어] spend (one's) time; 시간을 보내다

Two friends are talking at the supermarket. (두 친구가 수퍼마켓에서 이야기 중이다.)

Allen: Hi Michael. How are you?

앨런: 안녕 마이클. 어떻게 지내?

Michael: I'm fine, Allen. And you?



마이클: 잘 지내지. 자네는?

Allen: I'm good. What are you up to these days?

앨런: 나도 잘 지내지. 요즘 뭐 하나?

Michael: I'm still working at the bank. How about you?

마이클: 아직 은행에서 일해. 자네는?

Allen: I'm retired now. I spend my time on the golf course.

앨런: 난 은퇴했어. 골프 치면서 소일해.

Michael: Good for you. You've worked hard for so many years.

마이클: 잘 됐네. 그렇게 오래 열심히 일했으면 됐지.

Allen: Thanks. And how is the family?

앨런: 고마워. 가족들은 다 무고하지?

Michael: Everyone is good. My youngest daughter starts college in September.

마이클: 다 잘 있지. 막내 딸은 9월에 대학에 가.

Allen: Really? She grew up fast.

앨런: 정말? 참 빨리 컸다.

Michael: I know.

마이클: 그렇지.

*what are you up to?: 뭐 해?

"Your kids are really quiet in that bedroom. What are you up to?" (네 애들 침실에서 정말 얌전히 있다. 넌 뭐 해?)

*these days: 요즘.

"Prices are so high for everything these days." (요즘은 가격이 안 오른 게 없어요.)

*good for you: 잘 됐다.

Son: "Mom, I passed my math test today!" (아들: 엄마 오늘 수학 시험 통과했어요!)

Mother: "Good for you son." (엄마: 잘 됐다 얘야.)
