(코리아타운뉴스) KFAM Legal Advice Seminar

Judges and lawyers to give lectures on Sept. 23

The Korean American Family Services (KFAM), an organization serving as the guardian of Korean-American families in Orange County, is hosting its 2017 legal advice seminar at its office (12363 Beach Blvd., #1) on Sept. 23 at 10 a.m.

The two-hour seminar will be led by four legal experts, including judges and lawyers. Their lectures will center on laws regarding families, teenagers, immigration and domestic violence.

Orange County Superior Court’s Judge Salvador Sarmiento will speak to the attendees about ▶definition of abuse and its reality ▶domestic violence prevention ▶legal process of dealing with domestic violence. Lawyer Susan Choi will speak about ▶divorce process ▶common issues and misunderstandings in divorce cases ▶trial process ▶child custody and asset distribution.

Lawyer Caroline Han, who also once served as the president of Orange County Korean American Bar Association will speak about ▶youth violence and its legal procedures ▶education and programs at juvenile detention centers ▶juveniles court. Lawyer William Yeon, in addition to covering deferred action, will speak about ▶changing immigration status ▶obtaining citizenships ▶the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
