[오늘의 생활영어] take it the wrong way; 오해하다

Marilyn and Nancy are talking at work. (마릴린과 낸시가 직장에서 이야기를 나눈다…)

Marilyn: Have you heard about Vicky?

마릴린: 비키 얘기 들었어?

Nancy: No! And I couln't care less.

낸시: 아니! 그리고 관심 없어.

Marilyn: That's a pretty strong response. What do you have against her?

마릴린: 반응이 격하네. 비키한테 반감 가진 거라도 있어?

Nancy: She asked me to help her with a problem she had. I did and then she told me I didn't know what I was talking about.

낸시: 전에 힘든 일이 있다면서 도와달라고 하더라고. 그래 도와줬더니 내가 잘 알지도 못하는 얘기를 한다는 거야.

Marilyn: That doesn't sound like her. Maybe you took it the wrong way.

마릴린: 비키 답지 않데. 혹시 오해한 거 아니야.

Nancy: Oh no! She made it very clear.

낸시: 절대 아니야! 아주 확실하게 말하더라고.

Marilyn: That's too bad. Well I was going to ask you if you wanted to go with me to visit her in the hospital.

마릴린: 저런. 나하고 같이 비키 병문안 가자고 하려던 참이었는데.

Nancy: I don't think I can do that. I'm too fed up with her.

낸시: 그건 안 될 것 같다. 비키한테 질렸거든.

Marilyn: Okay. I'll see her by myself.

마릴린: 그래. 나 혼자 가야 되겠다.

Nancy: Well, I hope it's nothing serious.

낸시: 어쨌든 심각한 건 아니었으면 좋겠다.

*(one) couldn't care less (about): 전혀 관심 없다.

"I couldn't care less what he thinks of me." (그 사람이 나를 어떻게 생각하든 전혀 신경 안 써.)

*have (something) against…: 싫어하다. 반감을 갖다.

"I have nothing against people making a lot of money." (돈을 많이 버는 사람에 대한 반감 같은 거 없어요.)

*fed up with…: 질리다. 물리다. 싫증나다.

"She's been fed up with him since he lied to her." (자꾸 거짓말을 하니까 그 사람한테 질린 거야.)
