[오늘의 생활영어] call it a day; 하루 일을 끝내다

Barbara and Dianne are talking at work. (바버러와 다이앤이 직장에서 대화하고 있다.)

Barbara: It's almost quitting time.

바버러: 퇴근 시간 다 됐네.

Dianne: Thank God! My eyes are killing me from staring at this computer screen all day.



다이앤: 이렇게 고마울 수가! 하루 종일 컴퓨터 모니터를 들여다 봤더니 눈 아파 죽겠네.

Barbara: I can't wait to get home take a hot bath.

바버러: 집에 가서 뜨거운 물에 목욕할 생각을 하니 마음이 급해지네.

Dianne: Did you see today's newspaper somewhere?

다이앤: 오늘 신문 어디서 못 봤어?

Barbara: Yes it's in the lounge on the coffee table.

바버러: 봤지. 휴게실 커피 테이블 위에 있어.

Dianne: I saw some sales at some of the stores at the mall this weekend.

다이앤: 이번 주말에 쇼핑몰 가게 몇 곳에서 세일을 좀 하던데.

Barbara: Oh let's go together. Do you want to go Saturday?

바버러: 아 그럼 쇼핑 같이 가자. 토요일에 갈까?

Dianne: Sure. I need to buy some new shoes.

다이앤: 그러자. 구두를 몇 켤레 새로 사야 되거든.

Barbara: I'm going to call it a day. See you tomorrow.

바버러: 오늘 일을 끝내야겠다 . 내일 봐.

기억할만한 표현

*quitting time: 퇴근 시간. 일을 마칠 시간.

"Hey, it's 5:00. It's quitting time." (어이, 다섯 시야. 퇴근 시간이야.)

*(a part of one's body) is killing me: (몸의 어느 곳이) 아파 죽겠다.

"My back is killing me from carrying all those boxes upstairs." (저기 있는 박스를 모두 위층으로 날랐더니 등이 아파 죽겠어요.)

*(one) can't wait to: 손꼽아 기다리다.

"I can't wait to go to Hawaii. I've never been there before." (하와이 갈 날만 손꼽아 기다려요. 한 번도 안가봤거든요.)
