[오늘의 생활영어] lay (something) on the line; (무엇을) 위태롭게 하다

Ed and Dick are talking in the office.

Ed: When are you going to tell the boss about your idea?

Dick: I don't know. Maybe I won't tell him.

Ed: You're out of your mind. Why are you so nervous?

Dick: I'm laying my job on the line and that makes me nervous.

Ed: But your idea could save the company thousands of dollars every month.

Dick: I'll be criticizing the boss' idea and I'm not sure he'll be happy about that.

Ed: I know your idea will work. You've got to talk to him!

Dick: You're really behind me on this, aren't you?

Ed: Absolutely! Don't be afraid to speak your mind.

Dick: OK. I'll do it today. Thanks for your support.

*out of (one's) mind:

"You'd be out of your mind to sell your house now."

*be behind (someone): (누구) 편이다.

"He's successful because his wife has always been behind him."

*speak your mind: 솔직히 말하다

"Speaking your mind is usually a good idea."
