(코리아타운뉴스) Church elders to help the underprivileged

Praise Music of Love Concert to be held on Sept. 24

Korean-American Christian churches are hosting a concert to help the underprivileged communities, including North Korean defectors, missionaries and the impoverished.

The Southern California Korean Elders Association is hosting its 11th annual Praise Music of Love Concert at Inland Church (1101 N Glen Ave, Pomona) on Sept. 24 at 5:30 p.m.

The concert is part of the volunteer work the Korean-American Christians has been engaged in to bring the underprivileged community out of its shadow to build a brighter future. Southern California Elders’ Choir, Orange Mission Choir, Sarang Community Church of Southern California, Ewha Womans University Reunion Group, Women’s Chorale of America, Inland Church, Choong Hyun Mission Church and Korean Evangelical Nah Sung Church are among the organizations taking part in the concert.

“The elders’ association has previously hosted concerts in Mexico and even in facilities to help drug addicts,” said Cheol-soo Han, the organization’s chairman. “The funds that we’re set to collect through this concert will surely be distributed to the underprivileged communities in Southern California.”

The organization is also reaching out to other churches in the Korean community for more help. Promotions for the event is critical to secure distributable funds.

“Our hope is to introduce alcohol and drug addicts in the U.S. and Mexico to the savior that is our God,” said Ki-uhn Ha, a senior staff member at the organization. “We hope everyone can help us spread the word about our event.”

The Southern California Korean Elders Association is also planning on hosting various events, including campaigns to help North Korean defectors and providing water to third world countries.

“Missionary trips are an obligation in the Christian community,” said Han. “We hope the upcoming concert provides an emotional, honorable time. The elders of our church will try to be the exemplifying members of the community by reviving the positive image of Christians.”
