Daughter: We can’t have our picnic?

딸: 피크닉 못 가는 거에요?

Son: It‘s really coming down.

아들: 억수로 쏟아져요.

Father: It looks like we have to put it off.

아버지: 피크닉 연기해야 될 것 같다.

Daughter: I really wanted to have this picnic.

딸: 이번엔 피크닉 꼭 가고 싶었는데.

Father: Look on the bright side. We can have our picnic here at home.

아버지: 긍정적으로 생각해. 여기 집에서 피크닉을 해도 되잖아.

Daughter: It’s not the same.

딸: 그건 다른 거잖아요.

Mother: We can wait until the rain stops.

어머니: 비가 그칠 때까지 기다려도 되지.

Son: It‘s going to be a while before it stops Mom.

아들: 엄마 비 그치려면 한 참 있어야 될 거에요.

Father: We can always have our picnic tomorrow.

아버지: 내일은 언제든 피크닉을 갈 수 있어.

기억할만한 표현

*It’s really coming down: 비나 눈이 쏟아지다.

“Be careful driving tonight. It’s really coming down.” (오늘밤 운전 조심해요. 비가 억수로 와요.)

*put (something) off: 연기하다. (also put off something).

“We had to put the meeting off until next Monday.” (어쩔 수 없이 회의를 다음주 월요일로 연기했어요.)

*It’s not the same: 그건 다른 거죠. 별개죠.

“I want to go to the theater, not see a DVD at home. It’s not the same.” (집에서 DVD 보는 게 아니라 영화관에 가려는 거죠. 전혀 다르죠.)
