(탐이 직장동료 스티브와 이야기하며…)

Tom: Too bad you can't play golf with us this Saturday.

탐: 이번 토요일에 골프를 함께 못 친다니 안타깝다.

Steve: Now I can.

스티브: 이젠 칠 수 있어.

Tom: I thought you had to go shopping at the mall with your wife.

탐: 부인과 같이 샤핑몰에 가서 샤핑해야 되는 걸로 알았는데.

Steve: I did but now I don't. My wife's mom took a spill and she's going to stay with her all day Saturday.

스티브: 그랬는데 이제는 아니야. 장모님이 넘어지셔서 아내가 토요일 내내 장모님과 함께 있어야 되거든.

Tom: So You're off the hook.

탐: 그럼 매인 일이 없는 거네.

Steve: Yes. I can get in some golf.

스티브: 응. 골프를 좀 칠 수 있게 됐어.

Tom: I hope your wife's mother is not too hurt.

탐: 장모님이 너무 많이 다치시건 아니었으면 좋겠다.

Steve: She'll be fine. She'll be up and about soon.

스티브: 괜찮아지실 거야. 곧 나으실 거야.

Tom: That's good. Hey I'll pick you up at 8:00 okay?

탐: 잘 됐다. 이봐 내가 8시에 데리러 갈게. 괜찮지?

Steve: That sounds fine.

스티브: 좋아.

기억할만한 표현

*take a spill: 넘어지다.

"I took a spill getting out of the shower this morning."

(오늘 아침 샤워하고 나오다 넘어졌어.)

*get in (some activity): (시간이 나서) 무엇을 하다.

"I was able to get in an hour of tennis yesterday." (어제 시간이 나서 테니스를 한 시간 칠 수 있었어.)

*be up and about: 병이 낫다. 일어나 걸어 다니다.

"He was sick for a while but he was up and about in a week."
