(코리아타운뉴스) Ki-hwan Ha Unveiled as KACCLA Chairman

About 500 community leaders attend
the event, including L.A. Mayor Garcetti

A big party was held at Taglyan Complex near Hollywood on June 28. The event was held to unveil Ki-hwan Ha as the 41st chairman of L.A. Korean Chamber of Commerce. About 500 people attended the event to send their best wishes to the new chairman.

Notable attendees included L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, California State Treasurer John Chiang, Orange County Board of Supervisor Michelle Park Steel, L.A. City Councilmen David Ryu, Jose Huiza, Mitch O’Farrell and L.A. County Sheriff Kim McDonnell. Bright World Foundation director Myung-ki Hong, Hanmi Bank president Jong-guk Keum and CBB Bank president Joann Kim also attended the event.

The list of attendees was so impressive that Key-cheol Lee, the South Korean consul general in L.A., coming to the event was overshadowed.

More than 10 people gave keynote speeches. South Korean singer Soo-kyung Yang’s performance also highlighted the festive mood of the event.

Of all the events held by Korean organizations this year, this was by far the largest in terms of both attendance and scale. It was a place to confirm the reputation of Ha, who has been successful throughout his career as a real estate investor and owner of Koreatown market Hannam Chain.

Ha is returning to the position he once held from 1992 to 1993. His contribution to the community rewarded him as the northeastern area of Vermont and Wilshire was named Dr. Ki-hwan Ha Park in 2005.

Some say that Ha becoming the L.A. KACC chairman has been unexpected. One of the reasons, in fact, is because no one else stepped up to take the position. Ha simply took the responsibility that no one else wanted to take. Then, he launched the fanciest inauguration party.

L.A. KACC and the Korean Community are expecting big things from Ha.
“I chose to take the position as it’s a place that shouldn’t remain empty,” Ha said. “Now that I’m here, I won’t be slacking off.”

The Korean community is hoping to see Ha trying his utmost best to contribute to the growth of Korean-Americans.
