(코리아타운뉴스) New Korean-American Policeman

Irvine Police Department’s Jonathan Choi

A Korean-American police officer is ready to kick-start his career in Orange County.

His name is Jonathan “Jin-woo” Choi, 25, who graduated from O.C. Sheriff Academy on May 24 before starting his duty at the Irvine Police Department recently.

“I’ve wanted to be an FBI agent since I was a kid,” Choi said. “I’m going to be a policeman who gives his all for Irvine residents, including the Koreans in the area. My goal is to become a sheriff officer one day.”

Born in San Diego, Choi attended Linfield Christian School in Temecula and earned his BA in economics at UC Davis. After graduating, he worked as a marketing officer at minor league baseball team, the Sacramento River Cats. He applied to the police academy while working as an analyst for a media marketing company.

“I heard that the entry level officers primarily are assigned to patrolling duties,” said Choi’s father, Joseph, who lives in Las Vegas. “But Jonathan is reserving training at the criminal investigations department. Maybe in about 10 years, he’ll be the kind of officer that he envisions himself to be.”
