[오늘의 생활영어] (someone or something) is getting out of hand; ~가 걷잡을 수 없게 되다

(Terry is talking to David at work … )

Terry: Gas prices have gotten out of hand.

David: I know. Gas prices are sky high!

Terry: Ten dollars used to fill my car with gas.

David: What do you have to pay now to fill your car?

Terry: Thirty dollars!

David: I'm thinking about buying a motorcycle.

Terry: Why a motorcycle?

David: You get great mileage on a motorcycle.

Terry: I just wish prices would come down.

David: You'll be wishing for a long time.

"Prices for a house in California are sky high."

* used to: 예전엔 ~하곤 했다

"I used to live in San Francisco years ago. Now I live in Los Angeles."

"It's too hot to play tennis. Let's wait for the temperature to come down."
