[오늘의 생활영어] run into (someone); ~와 우연히 마주치다

(Roger is talking to Jim at work … )

(로저가 직장에서 짐과 얘기하는 중이다…)

Roger: Guess who I ran into yesterday.

로저: 내가 어제 누구를 봤는지 맞춰봐.



Jim: Who?

짐: 누구?

Roger: Jay!

로저: 제이!

Jim: Jay? Really? You ran into Jay? Where?

짐: 제이? 정말? 제이를 우연히 만난 거야? 어디서?

Roger: At the health club. He was working out next to me.

로저: 헬스클럽서. 내 옆에서 운동하고 있더라고.

Jim: What's up with him?

짐: 뭐하고 지낸대?

Roger: He's living in L.A. And he's married!

로저: LA에서 살고 있어. 게다가 결혼까지 했어!

Jim: Really? He's married?

짐: 정말? 결혼을?

Roger: Yes. He finally popped the question to his girlfriend.

로저: 응. 결국 그 여자친구한테 청혼한 거야.

Jim: They've been living together for a long time.

짐: 오랫동안 함께 살았잖아.

기억할만한 표현

* work out: 운동하다 건강관리하다

"I work out three times a week at the spa." (저는 1주일에 세 번은 스파에서 운동합니다.)

* what's up with (someone)?: 1) 요즘 어떻게 지내나요 2) 무슨 일이 있나요

1) "I haven't seen you in so long. What's up with you?" (얼굴본 지 오래됐네요. 어떻게 지내세요?)

2) "What's up with John? I said hello to him but he said nothing to me." (존에게 무슨 일이 있나요? 내가 인사를 했는데 아무 말도 안하던데요.)

* pop the question: 청혼하다

"Just before dinner last night I popped the question to Roberta." (어제 저녁식사 먹기 바로 전에 제가 로버타에게 청혼을 했습니다.)
