(폴이 친구 데이빗과 이야기를 나눈다…)

Paul: Hey David how about going fishing this weekend?

폴: 어이 데이빗 이번 주말에 낚시 가는 거 어때?

David: I'd love to Paul but I've got work to do.

데이빗: 가고는 싶은데 할 일이 있어.

Paul: What do you mean?

폴: 무슨 말이야?

David: I have to work overtime.

데이빗: 근무 시간 뒤에도 더 일 해야 돼.

Paul: You put in a lot of hours at your job.

폴: 너 직장에서 보내는 시간이 굉장히 많다.

David: I do. Especially with this new client we have.

데이빗: 맞아. 특히 새로운 고객에게 시간이 많이 들어.

Paul: Well let me know when you have time and we'll go up to the lake.

폴: 그럼 시간이 날 때 알려줘. 호수에 같이 가게.

David: My job really ties me down sometimes.

데이빗: 일 때문에 뭘 못 할 때가 가끔 있어.

Paul: Don't make yourself sick now.

폴: 병 날 정도로 하지 마.

David: No I won't.

데이빗: 그럼 그렇게는 안 해.

▶work overtime: 잔업을 하다. 초과 근무를 하다.
“I have to work overtime for the next two days.”
(앞으로 이틀 동안 근무 시간이 끝난 뒤에도 일 해야 돼.)

▶put in (time): (시간을) 들이다.
