Two college friends are talking in the cafeteria. (대학생 두 명이 카페테리아에서 말하고 있다.)

Syd: Our writing teacher always keeps us in class late.

시드: 우리 작문 강사는 수업을 항상 늦게 끝내.

Sharon: Doesn't she know when you're supposed to get out of class?

샤론: 수업 끝나는 시간을 모른단 말이야?

Syd: I'm sure she does but once she gets on a roll she won't stop lecturing. I don't think she ever looks at the clock.

시드: 모를 리가 있겠어. 근데 한 번 흥이 오르면 강의를 멈출 줄 몰라. 시계를 전혀 안보나 봐.

Sharon: Doesn't anyone bring it up with the teacher?

샤론: 누구도 강사에게 문제 제기를 안 하나 봐?

Syd: Everyone's too polite. We just politely wait for her to finish.

시드: 모두 너무 점잖아서 그래. 그냥 점잖게 강의 끝나기만 기다려.

Sharon: What if you had another class back-to-back?

샤론: 다음 강의가 연달아 있으면 어떡해?

Syd: You're right. I'm late to my math class three times a week.

*to get (또는 be) on a roll: 승승장구하다.

*bring something up 또는 bring up something: (어떤 주제를) 꺼내다.

“Paul always brings up political questions.” (폴은 늘 정치적인 문제를 화제로 삼아요.)

*get through to (someone): (누구를) 이해시키다. (누구와) 말이 통하다.

“It‘s sometimes difficult getting through to children.” (아이들을 이해시키는 건 때로 힘들어요.)
