경기도 양평 용문사에는 하늘로 솟아 있는 은행나무가 있습니다. 1962년에 천연기념물 지정되었고 나이가 약 1100~1500살로 추정되며 높이 42미터, 밑둥 둘레가 14미터로 한국에서 가장 나이가 많고 키가 큰 은행나무입니다. 거리에서 마주치는 은행나무와는 격이 다르죠. 단풍에 밀리지 않는 강렬한 노란색도 일품입니다. 미국에도 이 만한 은행나무가 있을까 궁금합니다.
