(Susan is walking out the door when her daughter stops her…)

(수전이 문을 나서는데 딸이 막아서는데…)

Katie: Where are you going?

케이티: 엄마 어디 가?

Susan: I’m going to see if I can take a class in night school.

수전: 야간학교에서 수업 들을 수 있는지 확인하려고.

Katie: You’re going to sign up for night school?

케이티: 야간 학교 등록할 거야?

Susan: Yes. I want to learn about digital cameras.

수전: 응. 디지털 카메라를 배워보려고.

Katie: What for?

케이티: 왜?

Susan: Because I have one and I don’t want to learn about it the hard way.

수전: 카메라는 한 대 있는데 어렵게 배우고 싶지 않아서 그래.

Katie: I can teach you how to use your camera.

케이티: 내가 엄마 카메라 사용법 가르쳐 줄 수 있는데.

Susan: I want to do more than point and shoot.

수전: 그냥 찍는 것보다 잘 하고 싶어서 그러지.

Katie: If your class becomes hard, I can give you a hand.

케이티: 수업이 어려워지면 내가 도와줄게.

Susan: Thanks, but I’ll give you lessons when I’m finished.

수전: 고맙긴 한데 강좌 다 끝나면 엄마가 널 가르쳐 줄게.

▶learn (something) the hard way: 실수를 통해 배우다.

“I learned the hard way that I didn’t like college.”

(난 대학이 맞지 않는다 걸 경험을 하고 나서야 깨달았어.)

▶point and shoot: (사진을 찍는 가장 기본적인 방법) 보고 그냥 찍다.

“I just want a camera that I can point and shoot.”

(그냥 찍을 수 있을 수 있는 카메라면 돼.)

▶give (one) a hand: (누구를) 돕다.

“Would you give me a hand with these shopping bags?”

(여기 샤핑백 드는 것 좀 도와줄래요?)
