(Fred and his wife are driving on the freeway…)

(프레드와 아내가 프리웨이를 달리며…)

Sara: What's that up ahead?

세러: 저 앞에 저거 뭐야?

Fred: I'm not sure. I can't make it out.

프레드: 모르겠는데. 안 보여.

Sara: I can't tell if it's an accident or construction.

세러: 사고 난 건지 공사하는 건지 분간이 안 가네.

Fred: Whatever it is it's going to make us late for our appointment.

프레드: 뭐가 됐던 약속 시간에 늦겠다.

Sara: You're right. There's nothing but a sea of brake lights for a mile.

세러: 그렇네. 1마일은 브레이크 등 밖에 안 보이네.

Fred: Well, there's nothing we can do about it.

프레드: 그게, 우리가 어떻게 할 수 있는 게 없네.

Sara: I would call the realtor, but I forgot my cell phone.

세러: 중개사한테 전화하면 좋겠는데 휴대폰 갖고 오는 걸 잊었어.

Fred: Here. I have mine.

프레드: 여기. 난 가져왔어.

Sara: What should I tell him?

세러: 뭐라고 해야 돼?

Fred: Tell him we'll call him again when we know what we're up against.

프레드: 교통 상황이 얼마나 안 좋은지 알게 되면 다시 전화하겠다고 해.

“We could see the lights of the city up ahead.”

(멀지 않은 앞 쪽으로 도시의 불빛이 보였어.)

▶make (it) out: 보이다, 파악되다.

“It’s difficult to make out the freeway signs at night.”

(밤에는 프리웨이 표지판이 보기가 어려워.)

▶a sea of (something): 무수히 많은.

“There was a sea of stars in the sky last night.”

(지난 밤에 하늘에 별들이 무수히 많았어.)
