Lorna: I couldn't make any sense of that program.

로나: 그 프로그램은 전혀 이해가 안가.

Bill: You have to read between the lines.

빌: 숨은 뜻을 읽어내야 하는 거야.

Lorna: What do you mean?

로나: 무슨 얘기야?

Bill: A lot of information comes from what you see not the words you hear.

빌: 정보의 많은 부분이 대사가 아니라 보는데서 얻어지는 거야.

Lorna: You understood that program?

로나: 그럼 당신은 그 프로그램은 이해했어?

Bill: Of course. It didn't dawn on me that you wouldn't understand it.

빌: 물론이지. 당신이 이해하지 못할 거라 고는 생각못했어.

Lorna: You make me feel stupid.

로나: 난 멍청한가봐.

Bill: Why do I make you feel stupid?

빌: 왜 나때문에 당신이 멍청하다고 느끼는 거지?

Lorna: Because I couldn't pick up on the meaning of that program.

로나: 그 프로그램을 이해하지 못해서 말야.

Bill: But I'm the one who usually doesn't understand.

빌: 하지만 평소엔 주로 내가 이해하지 못하는 쪽이잖아.



기억할만한 표현

* make (any) sense of (someone or something): ~를 이해하다

"Can you make any sense of what the teacher said today?" (오늘 선생님 말씀 이해가 가니?)

* dawn on (one): 차차 알아지다 이해가 가다

"It finally dawned on me that his hair isn't real. He's wearing a wig." (드디어 그의 머리가 진짜가 아니라는 걸 알게 됐습니다. 그는 가발을 쓰고 있어요.)

* pick up on (something): ~를 알아채다
