Leaving home for college is accepted even expected but leaving home for high school is still out of the norm for many if not most households. As a result misconceptions are more than often held about boarding schools mostly as jailhouses keeping students from doing anything but study. However at a private boarding school called Thacher students beg to differ.

Although perhaps a little more academically rigorous students are content with the amount of free time they are given. "We all have our day-to-day academic schedules; we all go through our daily grinds our routines. But there's room for getting off the trail too." says Charlie Sun a current senior.

This free time isn't also spent lolling in boredom locked away in school. Tawni Stoop a junior says "There is always some way to have fun at Thacher. Be it a dance ice skating Open House at the Mullys' sporting events or even casino night every week brings a new twist."

Although the students at Thacher agree that it is certainly a unique experience to go to a private boarding school they described all of the differences to be positive.

"I've found that at Thacher I've had so many unique intimate and intellectual but with an equal amount of goofy encounters with people that I wouldn't be able to have anywhere else" says Charlie.

Tawni adds "When you live with so many caring adults and friends your boarding school becomes your second home."

Kyle enthusiastically follows "I never thought I could enjoy school. But now that I've been to Thacher I don't know what I would do if I didn't go to school."

Shane Griffe a sophomore sums up Thacher and other boarding schools alike: "It is a place where you will develop life-long friendships be challenged to do your best in every aspect of life and will take part in experiences unlike any available at other schools around the globe."
