Nowadays in the NBA it is a remarkable feat to win the championship but to do so three times in a row is unheard of. Nevertheless the L.A. Lakers have surpassed any and all expectations. During their time in L.A. the Lakers have won over ten titles with streaks of winning back to back titles and completing the trifecta. This year the Lakers have won the last two championships and are vying for that last triplet. However is it possible to accomplish this achievement again?
It is no surprise that the Lakers are leading the pack. Out of the 15 teams in the Western Conference the Lakers are ranked second this season and are quickly rising to the top. Before the half way point the Lakers looked merely lucky but after the All-Star break things completely turned around. The Lakers have been consistently winning games by blowout margins. They have been blowing by both the lower and higher seeded teams.
Avid basketball fan Brian Ju a freshman at CVHS said "The Lakers are finally looking like champions. If they keep this up and don't get injured I'm sure that they'll win again." The Lakers are looking like a formidable team that has the potential to win the finals again.
While the Lakers are on a roll other teams can give them trouble. The Boston Celtics who have fought the Lakers for the last few years the Spurs who currently have a better record than the Lakers and the Heat who recently added two more superstars - Dwayne Wade becoming the leader of the Miami Big Three - all have a shot at the title. The most anticipated final matchup would be the defending champions
against the stacked Miami team.
Another sports aficionado Daniel Park a freshman at CVHS said "I really want to see these two teams go at it. Their games are always the most fun because every possession is filled with spectacular plays."
This battle for the crown will not be just for completing the trifecta of championships once more but to see who would win between Kobe and LeBron the old and the new respectively. This year's NBA Finals determines where Kobe ranks among the greatest. It will put him on the same playing field as legends such as Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. This year's Finals is not something to be overlooked because history will be made.
