(잔이 대학교 1학년인 아들 에디와 이야기를 나누는데…)
Eddie: Dad I think it's time to buy a car.
에디: 아빠 차를 살 때가 된 것 같아요.
잔: 글쎄…너 3개월 전에 운전면허 시험 통과했지.
Eddie: There's a kid in one of my classes whose father wants to sell his car.
에디: 우리 반 친구 중에 어떤 애가 있는데요 그 애 아빠가 차를 팔려고 한대요.
John: Well you have to take into account a few things.
잔: 그게 말이야 차 살 땐 몇 가지 따져봐야 돼.
Eddie: Like what?
에디: 어떤 거요?
John: The condition of the engine the mileage the condition of the exterior the interior.
잔: 엔진 상태하고 주행거리 외관 내관.
Eddie: I just want something to get around town.
에디: 전 그냥 타고 다닐 게 있으면 돼요.
John: Yes but when you buy something used you're usually buying someone else's problem.
잔: 그렇지. 한데 뭐든 중고를 살 때는 다른 사람의 골치거리도 같이 사게 되는 거야.
Eddie: I'll take it to your mechanic and have it checked out.
에디: 차를 아빠의 단골 정비사에게 가져가서 점검해 달라고 할 게요.
John: Now you're thinking smart.
잔: 이제 영리한 생각을 하는구나.
