[Korean Global Awards]Hyundai Thrives in Global Markets[글로벌경영대상]

Hyundai Motor Co.

Hyundai Motor Co. is one of the hottest brands in the world’s auto market today. The company sold 3.36 million units worldwide outside Korea, for an annual sales increase of 14.2 percent.

Combined with 680,000 vehicles sold in Korea, the figure reaches over 4 million. In America, Hyundai has enjoyed a double-digit increase every year.

In 2011, Hyundai sales increased more than 20 percent with 645,000 units sold in the U.S., surpassing 600,000 for the first time. According to Automakers, Hyundai’s market share reached 5.1 percent, seventh behind the likes of Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota among brands that enjoyed a rise in market share.

Sonata and Elentra have been the driving force behind the success. Due to excellent fuel efficiency and fine design, Elentra has been chosen as the “2012 North American Car of the Year.” Mid-sized sedans such as Genesis and Equus have also made strides, upgrading the Hyundai brand.

Hyundai is operating global production facilities in China, India and the U.S. Its Alabama plant in Georgia has been expanding over the years and now produces 350,000 vehicles a year, contributing to the local economy by creating jobs.
Furthermore, Hyundai Motor America’s charity, “Hope on Wheels,” unites approximately 800 dealerships across the U.S. to fund cancer research.

Hyundai’s commitment to consistent investments into the community as well as product research and development has been its guiding principle for success.

Mong-koo Chung, chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, announced that the group will “continue to expand investments into areas such as developing eco-friendly vehicles to meet customers’ needs.”
