Celebrating Patriot Talent
‘Showcase 2013’ was held at the Performing Arts Center in Stevenson High School on March 8th and 9th. ‘Showcase’ is an annual production held in Stevenson High School by talented students.

At the event, students perform their acts, such as singing and dancing. All acts are directed by students only and are divided into two groups: the band performance and alternative performances. Each act requires at least three people in a group, and each group has a choice to decide the name.

To attend the annual production of ‘Showcase’ at Stevenson High School, it is necessary to buy a ticket from the school; each ticket costs $9. It is prohibited to record or take pictures during performances because the Stevenson High School TV Staff professionally records all performances. SHS TV Staff releases photos and videos at their websites.

On March 8th, “Thinking of Elder Brother,” a Korean folk song, was played by a group called Baram (It means ‘the wind’ in Korean). The song is about a young girl who feels a longing for her older brother who left her. All students in Baram are currently juniors: Andrew Arceo (guitarist), Aaron Chai (pianist), Will Han (violinist), Brian Lin (Cellist), and Joo Won Yun (Gayageum player). Baram had a lot of attention from audiences because it was the first time for the vast majority of audiences to see and hear the Gayageum. It was very difficult to set up the microphone for the Gayageum; Glenn DeMichele and Mike Denning, who were the showcase sound advisor angels, decided to put a small microphone under the Gayageum.

Aaron Chai, the pianist in Baram, described his experience: “I thought playing with western instruments probably made the song sound different than what it was originally supposed to sound like, but overall I think we did a good job in capturing the spirit of this song.”
