Sejong University (President Eom Jong-hwa) announced that Rotary International District 3640 (Governor Woo-Soon Lim) and the Sejong Volunteer Corps donated tuberculosis diagnostic machines to Goa, India, on September 5.
This initiative was launched to help address India’s pressing public health challenge, where more than 2 million new tuberculosis patients are diagnosed annually, and to save countless lives through early detection.
The donation, valued at approximately USD 80,000, was made possible through joint contributions from the Panaji Riviera Rotary Club of Goa, Rotary USA, and Rotary District 3640 of Korea.
Former Governor Hong-Kyu Cho stated “We are very pleased to take part in the Panaji Riviera Rotary Club’s tuberculosis early diagnosis project. We hope this diagnostic equipment will greatly contribute to saving many patients’ lives.”
Governor Sharad Pai (D3170, India) emphasized “Rotary clubs worldwide are connected and are making a positive impact on international society. We are deeply grateful that Korea’s District 3640 and the Seoul Jeil Rotary Club have joined this service project.”
President Tanvi of the Panaji Riviera Rotary Club added “We look forward to continuing many projects with Rotary District 3640 of Korea over the long term.”
President Ryan Costa remarked “It was a pleasure to welcome you at the Fortune Miramar Hotel in Goa. We will always warmly receive fellow Rotarians.”
International Service Chair Moo-Jin Hyun commented “We are glad to support tuberculosis patients in India through this visit. District 3640 will continue to expand its international service activities.”
Professor Dae-Jong Kim of the Sejong Volunteer Corps said “We hope this support enables patients in India to be diagnosed and treated at an early stage. It was inspiring to see India’s vision of harmony between humans and animals”
International Service Chair Yong Cha of the Seoul Jeil Rotary Club shared “This was my first visit to India. I am very happy to have helped local residents gain access to timely TB testing in underserved areas.”
Chair Eun-Ok Ko expressed her feelings “I am delighted to have joined international volunteer work in India. I will continue practicing Rotary’s spirit of ‘Service Above Self’”
Former Secretary General Giyeon Kim stated “Rotary International is a global organization devoted to service above self. We will continue expanding volunteer activities to support disadvantaged neighbors in Korea as well.”
Committee Chair Yoon-Seo Jang, who provided excellent English interpretation, played a vital role in the field. She remarked “I was deeply moved to build ties with the Panaji Riviera Club, which has been an exemplary participant in Rotary’s global projects. By learning from their experience and expertise, I hope to help District 3640 carry out its initiatives more actively.”
Committee Chair Hye-Young Choi added “Helping those in need is the purpose of Rotary. I will always strive to put service into practice.”
Sejong University and Rotary District 3640 reaffirmed their commitment to continuing international cooperation and volunteer activities worldwide.
