KADEX 2026 Launches 'KADEX LAB' to Fuel the Next Generation of K-Defense Innovation

The organizing committee of KADEX 2026 (Korea Army International Defense Industry Exhibition), Asia’s premier land forces defense exhibition, has officially announced the launch of the ‘KADEX LAB.’ This specialized platform is designed to identify and bridge promising South Korean startups into the national defense supply chain.

The initiative arrives as dual-use technologies—ranging from AI-driven drone systems to autonomous platforms—become pivotal on the modern battlefield. In alignment with Seoul’s strategic ambitions, on February 23, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) recently unveiled a national roadmap to cultivate 100 homegrown defense startups by 2030. DAPA Commissioner Lee Yong-cheol emphasized that integrating these agile innovators is "essential for South Korea’s ascent into the world’s top four defense powerhouses."  
 
KADEX LAB specifically targets South Korean startups that possess cutting-edge technology but lack the institutional networks or marketing resources required to navigate the complex defense procurement landscape.
 
The program offers more than just floor space. A central feature is the ‘Innovation Technology Showcase (Startup Pitching),’ where selected companies will pitch their defense applications directly to ROK military officials, procurement executives from major defense primes, and venture capitalists. This is bolstered by a ‘Startup Business Matching’ program, facilitating pre-arranged one-on-one consultations based on rigorous demand assessments conducted ahead of the exhibition.
 
The introduction of KADEX LAB comes as the exhibition sees unprecedented demand. With 2,012 booths confirmed—shattering the 2024 record of 1,432—the main halls reached full capacity early. Industry titans such as Hanwha, Hyundai Motor Group, KAI, LIG Nex1, Poongsan, and Korean Air are set to attend, alongside national pavilions from 10 countries including the United States, Saudi Arabia, India, Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Latvia.
 

By carving out a dedicated space for startups amidst this sold-out venue, the organizing committee is sending a clear signal of its commitment to the future of the K-Defense ecosystem.
 
"KADEX LAB is a strategic gateway for domestic startups with high-potential technologies to gain a foothold in the defense market," an official from the organizing committee stated. "We anticipate tangible outcomes in technology validation, investment, and long-term partnership opportunities with major primes."
 
To maintain its focus on domestic industrial growth, eligibility for KADEX LAB is limited to companies founded within the past seven years that develop or manufacture defense and security technologies within South Korea. To lower the barrier to entry, participation fees are heavily subsidized. A total of 20 companies will be selected following a formal technical and commercial screening process.
 
KADEX 2026 will take place at Gyeryongdae (Military HQ base of South Korea), Chungcheongnam-do, from October 6 to 10.
