In the cosmetics industry, various delivery technologies are gaining attention as companies seek to improve the stability of active ingredients, enhance skin delivery efficiency, and increase formulation applicability. Technologies such as liposomes, nanoemulsions, and encapsulation systems have been developed in different forms. However, many conventional delivery systems have primarily focused on carrying and transporting active ingredients, leaving limitations in the functional utilization of the carrier material itself.
Developed by BIOFT, Collasome® is a collagen-based nano delivery platform designed to address these limitations of existing delivery technologies. Unlike conventional phospholipid-based delivery systems, Collasome® uses collagen itself as the carrier material. This enables the platform to provide not only active ingredient loading and delivery functions, but also the skin-friendly characteristics and cosmetic ingredient value of collagen.
Collasome® is designed to encapsulate various active ingredients based on a skin-friendly collagen structure. In particular, it is implemented as nanoparticles with an average size of approximately 174 nm, enhancing its applicability in cosmetic formulations. The platform also offers strong expandability, as it is designed to convert various types of collagen with different molecular weights into carrier structures.
Collagen exhibits different physical properties and application purposes depending on its molecular weight and structure. High-molecular-weight collagen can be used to form a moisturizing protective film on the skin surface, while low-molecular-weight and hydrolyzed collagen are widely used as ingredients that help support a moisturizing skin environment and elasticity care. Collasome® is designed to apply these diverse collagen characteristics within a single platform technology, enabling both ingredient functionality and delivery system performance.
BIOFT is developing Collasome® not merely as a collagen ingredient, but as a next-generation platform technology that combines the value of collagen-based materials with carrier functionality. The company plans to apply the technology to the development of various functional cosmetic products, improving the utilization of active ingredients and introducing differentiated skincare solutions.
A BIOFT representative said, “Collasome® represents a case in which collagen has been expanded beyond a simple moisturizing ingredient into a platform technology capable of loading active ingredients and being applied to formulations. We will continue to strengthen BIOFT’s differentiated material technology competitiveness by applying Collasome® to the development of functional cosmetics and high-value skincare products.”
