International human rights attorney Jared Genser and Lanny J. Davis, former special counsel to President Bill Clinton, have joined the legal and advisory team representing Cambodian businessman Yim Leak in connection with asset-freezing measures imposed by Thai authorities.

Seiden Law LLP, Yim Leak’s global legal counsel, said Genser and Davis will review the legal basis and procedures behind the asset freeze while also addressing allegations and media reports surrounding the case.
Genser, managing director of Perseus Strategies, has worked in international human rights law for more than two decades and has represented Nobel Peace Prize laureates including Aung San Suu Kyi, Liu Xiaobo and Desmond Tutu.
Thai authorities announced in April that more than 20 billion baht in assets linked to Yim Leak and others had been seized or frozen as part of an investigation into suspected transnational criminal activity, including online fraud and money laundering.

Yim Leak’s legal team disputes the basis and scope of the measures. According to Seiden Law, the team maintains that the underlying matter involved a foreign-exchange transaction of approximately $150,000 and argues that the scale of the subsequent asset freeze was disproportionate.
“The legal basis, proportionality and due process surrounding the asset freeze warrant close examination,” Genser said.
Davis, who served as special counsel to President Clinton and a White House spokesperson, will work with Genser on legal and public advocacy efforts. He said the team also plans to examine allegations against Yim Leak and how those claims have been presented publicly.
Robert Seiden, founder of Seiden Law LLP, serves as Yim Leak’s lead global counsel.
Yim Leak’s legal team said it will continue to challenge the asset-freezing measures and review whether the proceedings comply with internationally recognized standards of due process and human rights.
