BIOFT Secures Korean Patent for Innovative ‘Hyalsome®’ Technology, Leading the K-Beauty Advanced Materials Market
BIOFT, a company driving the dynamic growth of the K-beauty industry through innovative technology, announced that it has successfully registered a domestic patent as of September 24 for a method of manufacturing hyaluronic acid microparticles capable of encapsulating active ingredients, as well as cosmetic compositions containing them. The newly patented technology, named “Hyalsome®,” is expected to open a new chapter in the K-beauty market. BIOFT is a uniquely positioned company equipped with capabilities spanning from raw material supply to the development of proprietary ingredients and customized formulations tailored to specific product needs. By collaborating closely with clients across the entire process—from core cosmetic ingredients to final formulations—the company has established itself as a trusted partner. Despite being founded just one year ago, BIOFT has demonstrated explosive growth, and this latest patent further solidifies its position as a leader in technological innovation. The Hyalsome® technology developed by BIOFT is a next-generation platform that enables the stable encapsulation of various active ingredients—such as PDRN, peptides, vitamins, and plant-derived actives—within hyaluronic acid. In particular, unlike conventional delivery systems, this technology utilizes the structural properties of hyaluronic acid to form uniquely angular-shaped microparticles. This angular structure plays a critical role in enhancing the efficiency of endocytosis (cellular uptake) by inducing deformation of the cell membrane, thereby significantly improving the absorption rate of active ingredients into the skin. Additionally, as the hyaluronic acid naturally dissociates within the skin, it delivers its intrinsic benefits, offering a “double effect” of both active ingredient delivery and the inherent efficacy of hyaluronic acid itself. Conventional active ingredient delivery technologies have primarily relied on liposome systems, in which ingredients are encapsulated within phospholipid membranes. However, these systems face limitations due to the inherent instability of phospholipid bilayers, leading to issues such as ingredient leakage, oxidation during long-term storage, and vulnerability to changes in temperature and pH. In contrast, BIOFT’s Hyalsome® technology overcomes these drawbacks by utilizing a hyaluronic acid polymer network structure that offers superior stability. The technology supports a size distribution ranging from nano- to microscale, with an average particle size of approximately 600 nm, enabling the effective delivery of a wide range of active ingredients. Hyalsome® is based on hyaluronic acid, a natural polymer that is a key component of the human dermis and extracellular matrix, providing excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability. This ensures minimal risk of skin irritation or toxicity, even in high-concentration formulations. Moreover, hyaluronic acid itself delivers intrinsic skincare benefits such as hydration, elasticity enhancement, and regeneration support. When combined with encapsulated active ingredients, it creates a powerful dual-synergy effect. In other words, as active ingredients are gradually delivered into the skin, hyaluronic acid forms a moisture-retaining barrier that enhances absorption while simultaneously supporting skin barrier recovery and improving elasticity—offering a truly innovative solution. A BIOFT representative stated, “This patent is a valuable achievement resulting from our continuous research and dedication. Moving forward, we will remain committed to developing customized ingredients that strengthen our clients’ competitiveness, while closely aligning with market trends and customer needs to contribute to the advancement of a differentiated K-beauty industry.” With its Hyalsome® technology, BIOFT is expected to lead the next-generation cosmetic ingredient market and further elevate the global competitiveness of K-beauty. 정현식 기자technology materials active ingredients beauty market proprietary ingredients
