Korean Fintech ATON Targets Global Expansion with Mobile Security Solution at Major Telecom Conference

Korean fintech security company ATON (co-CEOs Jong-seo Kim and Gill-soo Woo) announced May 29 its global expansion strategy with the mobile security solution 'DefendUs' at the GSMA-hosted 'M360 Eurasia 2025' conference in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, leveraging its successful partnerships with Korea's three major telecommunications operators as a foundation for international growth.   DefendUs, which has been operating in Korea as the ‘Mobile Protection Service' through partnerships with SK Telecom, KT, and LG U+, represents a proven anti-smishing technology that provides real-time malicious link detection across SMS, Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp, and other messaging platforms. The solution's success in Korea's advanced telecommunications market positions ATON to pursue strategic partnerships with global telecom operators.   The company's international debut comes at a critical time when mobile security threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated. DefendUs addresses these challenges through its unique "detection-management-education" framework that continuously improves user security behavior patterns while providing comprehensive protection across both iOS and Android platforms.   During the 'Power of Partnership' session at M360 Eurasia 2025 on May 22 (local time), Nam Tae-wook, Head of ATON's Service Business Division, emphasized how telecommunications operators' network infrastructure and user relationships create ideal conditions for delivering effective real-time security services. "Our successful collaboration with Korea's leading telecom operators demonstrates the power of partnership-based security solutions," Nam explained.   The DefendUs platform distinguishes itself from traditional antivirus solutions by extending protection beyond applications to web browsing and social media interactions. Its innovative family notification feature enables real-time threat sharing among household members, particularly protecting digitally vulnerable populations.   "DefendUs goes beyond simple detection to continuously improve users' security behavior patterns through a cyclical structure of 'detection-management-education,'" Nam said. "The family notification feature, which enables real-time sharing of threat situations among family members, plays a significant role in protecting digitally vulnerable populations."   Modern smishing attacks have evolved to impersonate legitimate communications including government fines, package tracking notifications, congratulations, and obituaries, with tactics continuously adapted to exploit current social issues and seasonal events. ATON's solution addresses these sophisticated threats through AI-powered detection and real-time response capabilities.   "Increasingly sophisticated mobile phishing crimes require close collaboration among telecommunications companies, financial institutions, government agencies, and security firms," Nam emphasized. "DefendUs facilitates this cooperation through shared threat intelligence, AI-driven analysis, and enhanced security protocols."   Following its M360 presentation, ATON plans to establish partnerships with international telecommunications companies to expand DefendUs globally, building on the validation and operational experience gained through its Korean market success.   M360 Eurasia 2025 is Central Asia's largest digital and telecommunications industry event, hosted by GSMA with Uzbekistan's Ministry of Digital Technologies as an official partner. The conference addressed key emerging technologies including generative AI, 5G networks, and cybersecurity solutions.     최지원 기자conference expansion major telecommunications mobile security telecommunications market

Jung Hun Choi, CEO of YIDO, presents as a speaker at the first Conference of the Global Climate Action Fund

Jung Hun Choi, CEO of Yido, attended the first Global Conference of Climate Action Fund (GCAF) as a speaker and made a presentation on how to respond to climate change. Yido is an environmentally friendly company, which is the sole “Value-UP” platform in Korea.   CEO Choi made a presentation at the 2022 GCAF, held at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul last month. Of all the eco-friendly companies in Korea, Only Yido was invited to the conference.     During his presentation, CEO Choi introduced what Yido has accomplished and pursues to achieve “net zero”: the establishment of a nationwide full-value chain of industrial waste treatment; Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) business; solar power generation business on salt-affected land; waste recycling and renewable energy business such as offshore wind power.     "We have a complete value chain of waste disposal that connects waste processing, recycling, incineration, and landfill. Through the modernization efforts, we have successfully established an automation system which doubles the amount of waste recycling while reducing fine dust and noise," said Choi at the conference.   He also said, “As plastic recycling is gaining prominence globally, YIDO focuses on thermal recycling by using its incinerators,” and added “YIDO also plans to utilize excess heat generated by the incineration of plastic waste for plants or smart farms while reducing the emission of carbon dioxide during the incineration by applying its CCU technology.”     Last June, YIDO was selected for a National Assignment of the Ministry of Science and ICT to develop CCU Technology with 12 other related companies, including Hyundai E&C and Lotte Chemical.     Regarding new and renewable energy areas, Choi elaborated, "We are constructing 100-MW solar power generation facilities and pursuing 400-MW offshore wind power business in sea-affected farmland, which is difficult to cultivate, without damaging the forest." He added, "We expect solar power generation facilities in sea-affected farmland will reduce the carbon dioxide emission by 54,000 tons while offshore wind power generators will reduce as much as 506,000 tons per year."   Choi also said that he is willing to invest in environment-related startups. He noted, "There are many environmental startups related to waste management worldwide, but we have only a handful of them here in Korea. I hope to see more young bright talents jump into environment related areas."     CEO Choi explained, "YIDO's vision statement is that We Are Here for Your Greater Life!" by mentioning Space Sweepers, a film about solving the problems derived from space debris. He concluded his presentation by saying, "We will continue our efforts in various angles for better life of all humankind."   Besides CEO Choi, Allison Nam, Partnership Director of Techstars, a global accelerator, introduced the trends representing environment-related investment portfolios in the Climate Action session.   In addition, Jinho Kim, the producer of the movie titled Law of Symbiosis 2, made a presentation about the roles of the media, entertainment businesses and eco-brities on environmental issues. Also, he introduced the "Project STOP," in Indonesia, which is an activity led by Markus Horcher, director of Borealis Group, the Austrian global chemical company, to reduce plastic wastes discarded in the sea.   The first Global Climate Action Fund conference of this year served as a forum for discussion attended by many leaders of global companies, governments, and organizations such as S&P Global, GroupM, Loreal, Deutsche Bank, Schneider Electric, Schlumberger, Borealis Group, SBS, Techstars, CGI, Globe Telecom, and Oriental Brewery. 강동현 기자 [email protected] presents climate action waste recycling plastic recycling
