Dwight School Seoul Marks Triumphant Return at KAIAC Swim Championship

Dwight School Seoul (DSS) is grounded in its educational philosophy of discovering and nurturing each student’s unique potential through personalized learning. In January, DSS made a historic and meaningful return to the KAIAC (Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference) Swim Championship after a seven-year hiatus.   Competing under FINA regulations alongside athletes from 17 prestigious international schools, the DSS Varsity swim team demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience. Three student-athletes achieved personal best performances, reflecting the team’s commitment to rigorous training and continuous improvement. A standout moment of the championship was Henry’s exceptional performance in the 100-meter backstroke, where he recorded an impressive time of 59.82 seconds and finished first in his event.   Director of Athletics, Chad Wanner, expressed great pride in the team’s efforts, noting that their dedication and discipline mirror the personalized excellence fostered through DSS’s Grade 9–12 University and Career Counseling (UCC) pathways. Dwight School Seoul: All Dwight Schools Reunited through an Unforgettable ChoirFest 2025 Week

Dwight School Seoul unites all Dwight Schools for an unforgettable ChoirFest 2025 Week, celebrating music, collaboration, and global community spirit.   Dwight School Seoul choir students recently took part in the 7th Annual Dwight Global ChoirFest, held in London, where they joined their peers from Dwight schools around the world for an unforgettable week of music, collaboration, and celebration under the inspiring theme, “Our Stories.”   This year’s Choirfest brought together talented young vocalists from the various Dwight Schools to share their voices and connect through music. The festival has become a cherished annual tradition that embodies the Dwight vision of igniting the “spark of genius” in every child while fostering global understanding and unity.   Throughout the week, students engaged in a series of workshops, rehearsals, and cultural exchange activities, culminating in a final performance at the Pentland Theatre that showcased their collective passion and artistry. The theme, “Our Stories,” invited students to reflect on their personal journeys and cultural backgrounds, transforming these experiences into powerful musical expressions.   Representing Dwight School Seoul, the choir students captivated audiences with their heartfelt performance and deep musicality, embodying the spirit of creativity, collaboration, and international-mindedness that defines the Dwight community.   “Participating in ChoirFest was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students,” said Nathalie Waldmann, our PYP Coordinator and trip leader. “They not only developed their musical skills but also built lasting friendships and a profound appreciation for the diverse stories that unite us as one Dwight family” Jakob Henzi, Dwight School Seoul Performing Arts teacher and Choir Director, added.     Seeing the key features and landmarks of London felt iconic for the Dwight School Seoul choir students, who described the city as “like no other.” Among them, Linnea shared that singing the alto part was both a challenge and a rewarding experience. “My friend often reminds me to stay on the right notes, and even though it can be tricky, I feel really proud of myself when I get them right,” she said. Linnea was also inspired by artist Ben Wilson, who paints tiny pictures on pieces of gum stuck to the ground on Millennium Bridge, a creative and unique way to make art that left a lasting impression.   For Treia, the highlight of the trip was seeing London from above on the famous London Eye. “It was much bigger than I expected, and it was so cool that our whole group could fit in one cabin,” she shared. Beyond sightseeing, Treia reflected on how music strengthened friendships during the trip. “Singing brings people together and helps us connect, even with people we didn’t know before,” she added.   As the final notes of ChoirFest 2025 echoed through London, the students returned home with unforgettable memories, strengthened connections, and a renewed sense of pride in representing Dwight School Seoul on the global stage.   Through events like ChoirFest, Dwight continues to nurture a global community of learners who celebrate diversity, creativity, and the shared human experience one song at a time.      정현식 기자dwight schools dwight schools dwight vision week students
