Korea Cooks Federaation (KCF) Appoints Young Chef Kyu Lyn Kim as the Youngest-Ever Member of the Junior National Culinary Team

The Korea Cooks Federation (KCF) announced on January 8, 2026, that Kyu Lyn Kim, a second-year student at Jamsil Middle School and a member of the Korea Young Chefs Team, has been selected as a member of the Junior National Culinary Team, becoming the youngest appointee in the history of Korean cuisine.   The Junior National Culinary Team, organized by The Korea Cooks Federation (KCF), traditionally consists of students from high school, university, and the general division. Candidates are selected through a rigorous application process based on submitted resumes, professional certifications, and competition records, with only nine members chosen nationwide each year.   Kim, a general middle school student, emerged as a remarkable talent in the Korean culinary scene in May 2025. Since then, she has competed in numerous domestic and international culinary competitions, consistently setting new records as the youngest award recipient in each event. Her rapid rise has earned her recognition as a leading figure among Korea’s young chefs and the nickname “genius girl chef.”   Mr. Jaeyong Kim, Secretary General of the Korea Cooks Federation (KCF), stated:   “The Junior National Culinary Team has traditionally been composed exclusively of high school students. Kim’s appointment as a junior national team member at just 14 years and 5 months old is officially recognized as the youngest selection in the history of Korean cuisine.” With this appointment, Kim continues her streak of record-breaking achievements into 2026. Mr. Seongjin Cho, Head Coach of the Junior National Culinary Team, explained the decision: “Based on Kim’s exceptional performance and competition results in 2025, her growing international influence, her serious and focused approach to cooking, and her outstanding ability to respond under pressure, we concluded that she fully meets the standards required of a national team member. Despite her young age, we confidently selected her for the team.”   Mr. Junwoo Lee, Director of Yangjae Chef School, who discovered and has mentored Kim, added:   “Kim is an exemplary and highly disciplined student. Thanks to her influence, we are seeing an increasing number of elementary school students dreaming of becoming chefs. This is a very positive sign for the future of Korean cuisine, and we hope her appointment will inspire the emergence of many more talented young Korean chefs.”   Under the intensive training of Head Coach Seongjin Cho, Kim will compete as a Junior National Culinary Team member for the first time at the 2026 International Culinary & Pastry Competition, scheduled to take place in May 2026.   The competition, which attracts more than 4,000 participants, is the largest culinary event of its kind in Korea. Kim first competed in the event in 2025, where she captured widespread attention by winning a silver medal as the youngest participant in the competition’s history. [정호영의 바람으로 떠나는 숲 이야기] 대자연의 신비를 만나다…아치스 국립공원(Archs National Park)

유타 주에는 5곳의 국립공원이 자리하고 있는데. 그중 모압 (Moab)이라 부르는 작은 도시에 유명 국립공원이 두 곳 있다. 바로 아치스 국립공원(Archs National Park)과 캐년랜드 국립공원(Canyonlands National Park)이다. 콜로라도 강이 도시를 감싸고 있어 4륜 구동차 타기, 급류타기, 산악자전거, 암벽등반, 하이킹 등 다양하게 즐길 수 있어 수많은 사람들이 찾는 곳이다.   아치스 국립공원은 1971년도 닉슨(Richard Nixon)대통령에 의해 국립공원으로 지정됐는데 약 114평방마일의 넓이를 갖고 있다. 이곳의 4분의 3이 형용할 수 없는 각기 다른 모양의 거대 바위 정원이다. 오랜 세월 바람과 날씨와 부식과 침식 작용에 의해 바위 창문들(Archs)이 약 2000여 개가 형성됐고 핀욘, 주니퍼, 카이밥 나무들과 이름도 모를 여러 종류의 동식물이 신비롭게 조화를 이루고 있는 곳이다. 많은 관광 포인트가 있으나 이중 대표적인 몇 곳을 소개한다.     ▶데빌스 가든(Devils Garden)   차로 들어갈 수 있는 공원의 가장 끝 지점에 데블스 가든이 위치하고 있는데 캠핑을 할 수도 있고 수많은 아치들을 찾아 하이킹을 할 수도 있는 지역이다. 이곳에는 세계에서 가장 큰 날개를 갖고 있는 랜드스케이프 아치(Landscape Arch)가 있는데 그 날개 길이만 306피트이고 얇은 부분은 10피트의 두께다. 왕복 약 2마일 거리로 약 1시간 30분 정도면 다녀올 수 있다. 오가는 산책로에서 펼쳐지는 자연의 모습이 지구가 아닌 곳을 산책하는 것 같은 기분이 들정도로 신비스럽다. 하이킹 전 식수는 반드시 준비해 가도록 하자.   ▶델리케이트 아치(Delicate Arch)   유타주 상징이기도 한 이 델리케이트 아치는 높이 85피트, 넓이 65피트 규모다. 장엄한 주변 경관과 조화를 이룬 아름다운 모습으로 인해 매해 많은 관광객들이 이곳을 찾는다. 이곳까지는 왕복 약 3마일가량의 산책로인데 고도 480피트로 결코 만만치 않은 코스다. 왕복 약 2시간 코스인데 마지막 도착 지점이 깎아지른 절벽인데다 바람이 무척 강해 안전에 각별한 주의를 기울여야 한다. 아치가 형성된 가장 큰 원인이 바로 강풍인데 강풍에 의해 오랜 세월 바위가 깎여나가 지금과 같은 신비의 모습이 된 것이다.   ▶윈도우 섹션(The Windows Section)   여러 바위 창문이 가까이 위치하고 있어 비경을 만끽할 수 있는 지역이다. 노스 윈도우(North Window), 사우스 윈도우(South Window)와 터렛 아치(Turret Arch) 등 잘 관리된 산책로를 따라 즐길 수 있으며 배경으로 3877m 높이의 나살 마운틴이 바위 창문들과 어울려 오랫동안 가슴에 남을 것이다. 파킹 장 건너편의 더블 아치(Double Arch)까지 산책도 강력 추천한다.     아치스 국립공원에 대한 자세한 정보는 공식 사이트(nps.gov/arch/)에서 확인할 수 있다.  정호영 / 삼호관광 가이드정호영의 바람으로 떠나는 숲 이야기 국립공원 national archs national national park 유명 국립공원
