Alicia: Mom, can Stacey stay over tonight?
앨리샤: 엄마 스테이시가 와서 자고 가도 돼요?
캐런: 오늘은 안돼.
Alicia: Come on Mom. If you let her we'll help you make dinner and we'll wash the dishes.
앨리샤: 왜요 엄마. 허락해주시면 저녁 만드는 것도 돕고 우리가 설거지도 할게요.
Karen: Nothing doing; not during the week.
캐런: 안돼 주중에는.
Alicia: Let's talk it over before you make a decision.
앨리샤: 결정하기 전에 좀더 의논해봐요 우리.
Karen: There will be no discussion. The answer is no!
캐런: 의논할 것 없다. 답은 안된다는 거야!
Alicia: I really want her to Mom. It's really important.
앨리샤: 엄마 난 정말 초대하고 싶어요. 아주 중요하단 말이에요.
Karen: The rule is that no one can spend the night during the week.
캐런: 규정은 주중에 아무도 집에 와서 자고 가는 건 안된다는 거야.
Alicia: That's why I don't have any friends.
앨리샤: 그래서 제가 친구가 없는 거에요.
Karen: If it's that important she can stay over on Saturday.
캐런: 그렇게 중요하면 토요일 저녁에 와서 자고 가면 되지.
기억할만한 표현
* stay over: ~의 집에서 묵다 밤을 보내다
"If she's staying over tonight you'd better clean your room." (오늘 저녁에 걔가 와서 자고 갈 거면 넌 네 방을 청소해야 한다.)
* nothing doing: 안됩니다
"Nothing doing I'm not lending you any money." (안돼요 전 당신한테 돈을 빌려드릴 수 없습니다.)
* spend the night: (~에서) 밤을 보내다
"I spent the night at the airport because all flights were delayed." (비행기 운항이 전부 취소되서 전 공항에서 밤을 보내야했습니다.)
